This week is all about planning and giving proposals. My proposal started with working on trying to implement a typeface that could fit 3 games that were made by the same director and share the same universe. After consulting with the lecturers, they advised me to do only one of the games and try to enhance the game title instead. The 3 games that I chose included Ico (2001), Shadow of the Colossus Remake (2018), and finally The Last Guardian (2016).

The proposal was mainly to create a typeface that would fit all three games, however since I'm only doing one of the games. I decided to choose The Last Guardian as I felt that it lacked the representation of the game's environment. So with that in mind, I decided to do a little bit of research on the game and try to figure out why the typeface was designed like that. After finding no explanation whatsoever (there was but it was in Japanese and google translate wasn't accurate). I can only conclude that the reason being is that because the game is more narrative-based hence the typeface is thin and showcasing more of a fairytale-like title for the game.
So upon designing the typeface, I had this idea of implementing a Roman Typeface on the artwork with entangled vines and maybe some moss textures on the artwork. With that idea, I decided to look at some references for the design. Being the gamer that I am, I looked through some of the game titles that I've played throughout the years and found a few games with those references. The games that I chose were "Absolver" and "Titan Souls", these 2 games had a similar environment towards the game that I'm working on. They both share a similar environment of abandoned ancient ruins. These are the references

The 2 game titles have the entangled plant on the text that I was looking for so I decided to use that as reference for my artwork. The next step for me was to look for plants to entangle with the text, before that I search for Roman Typefaces that would fit well for my artwork. Eventually, I chose the Typeface of Times New Roman and searched for plants to entangle with my text.

I started off with making what the final product would look like, I was working backward starting with what the final typeface title would look like. So this is what I made :

The next step after creating the title was figuring out how to improve the title based on what I created now. So with that in mind, I came up with this idea of letting the black lines and the black colors be transparent and let the wallpaper fill-up the gaps. After doing that, this was the result of the artwork.

After finishing the artwork I decided to finish the alphabets of this typeface and this the uppercase version.
