Final Project - Expression, Hierachy and Composition
INTRODUCTION
FINAL PROJECT
14.06.2019 - 28.06.2019 (Week 11- Week 13)
For this project in particular which is my worst nightmare, we are required to design a poster with the requirements being that we have to use as little graphic element as possible and more on the typography. The theme being that we have to use a powerful social message as a quote or a short phrase and express that quote.
For my phrase, I chose "Break the Silence" for my quote. So I chose this quote because I had a fight with my friend from class and we fought because he never talked about his problem to me, so the phrase is inspired by that.
For the first step, we made sketches for our ideas. And this is what I came up with :

So I showed Mr. Vinod my ideas, all of them got turned down. BUT he gave me advice that I should try to incorporate something thats breakable like bricks or glass. I did exactly just that, I took that in a literal sense and did this:

So I showed Mr. Vinod my digitization of the work, and he said and I quote :"The visual idea is appropriate but it needs more thought in composition, alignment and arrangement." I also showed Mr. Shamsul this work and he gave a few advice showing that I can try making the "silence" look diminishing, and he also said that its almost there, just need more work (Basically, its simplified version of what Mr. Vinod said.).
When Mr. Vinod said that it needed more thought on pretty much everything about it. I couldn't think of a good idea to fix it, so after a few days of brainstorming and thnking, I figured that I lose the idea of arranging it like a set of bricks and just go for 4 levels of silence and made the break look like hammer and just go with it. This was what it looked like.

So once again I showed Mr. Vinod my second attempt, and he gave me advice on how to improve it he said that I should split the silence apart and let them reach the end of the page and color the silence below, with visual guide of course.

After looking at the work I followed it and that was the final product that I made. This is the final product :

We also needed to create a animated gif of the poster. This was what I did :

Feedback
Week 11
Mr Vinod said The visual idea is appropriate but it needs more thought in composition, alignment and arrangement. Mr. Shamsul said that its almost there and it needs to work more on it. Week 12 Mr. Vinod said that I should let the silence split more and let it reach till the end of the page and color the letters below the red silence
EXPERIENCE
Doing this again was insanely terrifying, it was also a challenge for me to overcome. I had this fear of failing the course again because I did horrible last semester and this final project scared me a lot. Going through this course again has taught me a lot of things that I didn't notice or paid any attention to, and I only have the lecturers to thank for that.
Findings
Throughout this final project and this course I felt that my skills have far improved compared to what I did last semester. Looking back, I feel like I did well this semester.
Observation
I found out that some people in the classroom did their gif's in After Effects, which really was really insane to me.
FURTHER READINGS
I manage to got into some further readings, because this was difficult, I read blogs on how to make a better poster design and it really helped.
This website talks about different tips for better poster design.
