Project 2 - Font Design
LECTURE
Lecture 8 (Week 8)
We weren't given any lecture. We were given time to digitize our fonts.
Lecture 9 (Week 9)
For this week we were given lectures on paragraph and learned about different terms in a paragraph, such as a pilcrow.
INSTRUCTIONS
EXERCISE
For this project we were required to design a font (hence the name of the project). We were required to design a font with the reference of the 9 typeface that Mr. Vinod and Mr. Shamsul provided . For my reference I chose Univers LT STD 55 Roman.
WEEK 7
Before we started designing we were asked to dissect the letters from the font or typeface that we chose. Here are a few examples :

WEEK 8
For this week since we were supposed to digitize it as mentioned in the facebook announcement, I misread it and I only drew sketches, but either way I quickly went on and did the digitization.

Fig 1.6 Digitize Letters
Those were the digitize letters, when I showed these to Mr. Vinod he had a lot of complaints. First he pointed out that the letter "v" should be only be slanted one side to follow the letter "u". He also mentioned that the intersection for the letter "r","m","n" should be thinner and then grow thicker as the stroke goes on. He also mentioned that the bowl of the letter a doesn't look right, after that he said that I should smoothen the stroke of the letter "s" a little bit and check the thickness of the letter "d".
Fig 1.7 Mr. Vinod's Corrections
After looking at the feedback that Mr. Vinod said I took the time at week 9 to refine the letters based from Mr. Vinod feedback. I've fixed everything and these were the results.

After finalizing our Digitization we were then asked to design and generate it in fontlab V5, this is an app that allows people to generate fonts. After we finished putting our fonts to fontlab we were then asked to type out a sentence using the letters that we made the sentence is: "I survived mr.vinod and mr.sam's class." This is the process and the final result.

After that we were asked to arrange the words into a unique way. I did my one like this.

Feedback
WEEK 8
First he pointed out that the letter "v" should be only be slanted one side to follow the letter "u". He also mentioned that the intersection for the letter "r","m","n" should be thinner and then grow thicker as the stroke goes on. He also mentioned that the bowl of the letter a doesn't look right, after that he said that I should smoothen the stroke of the letter "s" a little bit and check the thickness of the letter "d".
WEEK 9
Mr. Shamsul mentioned that the the my letter d and my letter l should be lower (ascender).
Reflections
I feel that taking this course for the second time and doing the same projects again only harder has made better at doing typography work compared to last semester. I could definitely say that I became better than last semester taking typography again. This project in particular has given me hell because we had to design 12 letters and 2 symbols while having the same characteristics to each other, but I still enjoyed the project although it was painfully torturing.
Observations
I noticed that other people's work are insanely good.
Findings
I find that I did better compared to last semester by a lot.
